Beth Hart, Ph.D.

Research and Evaluation Director

Beth Hart is the director of research and evaluation at EdInsights. She conducts rigorous research to support evidence-based decision-making in education, with a focus on improving equitable pathways to and through college. Hart leads a team of 10+ researchers and evaluators, providing direct supervision, mentorship, expert advising, and quality assurance across the center’s research and evaluation projects. She designs, directs, and executes a portfolio of projects that includes evaluating programs, analyzing administrative and survey data, elevating student voices, and collaborating with education leaders to translate findings into action. Hart’s expertise spans postsecondary and adult education, workforce alignment, and the experiences of nontraditional, returning, working, and parenting students.

Previously, Hart was a senior research associate at WestEd, where she partnered with education and nonprofit organizations to lead research, evaluation, strategic planning, and technical assistance projects aimed at improving outcomes for historically marginalized students. A former community college transfer student, Hart holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Davis.
